On September 14, a Mexican journalist and UFO enthusiast, Jaime Maussan, presented two corpses to the Mexican Congress that he claimed were extraterrestrials. He said they were found in Peru near the Nazca Lines in 2017, an ancient site with mysterious geoglyphs, and that they dated back to 1,000 years ago.
The corpses had three fingers on each hand and elongated skulls. They looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. However, soon after the presentation, a Facebook user exposed the hoax. He posted a photo of a paper mache alien sculpture that was identical to the corpses. The sculpture was part of a toy set that had been sold for years.
The photo went viral and caused a backlash against Maussan and his supporters. Many people accused them of wasting public money and deceiving the public with a fake alien story.
